I have been passionate about sewing ever since I was a child; I sewed my first skirt, by hand, when I was just eight years old and have never stopped sewing since then.
Like many small home businesses, SEWN GREEN CRAFTS evolved during the covid lockdown of 2020. I realised as soon as we went in to lockdown that face masks would soon become mandatory. There was a shortage of masks for the NHS so, I believed that the public should wear washable, reusable masks. Also I did not like the thought of the impact on the environment with their manufacture and dsiposal. And so, I started making and selling cotton masks at cost price before they becamemandatory. Mask making generated off cuts of 100% cotton fabric whci I saved and used as the backs for my next project, Bamboo velour washabe and reusable face wipes.
The aim of SEWN GREEN CRAFTS is to make environmentally friendly items made from natural biodegradable fabrics.
The ethos behind my business is using eco-friendly, sustainable materials wherever possible to hand sew gifts for personal care and for the home. Naturally sourced fibres are my prime choice. The use of synthetic fibres is kept to a minimum and are only used if there is no natural or affordable alternative.
Brother Sewing Machines are used for general sewing, overlocking and machine embroidery.
A Cricut Maker is sometimes used for cutting out quantities of small pieces or in the manufacture of packaging.
